Lady Gaga – Bad Romance

Lady Gaga – Bad Romance

Hey guys,

Thanks so much for tuning in each Monday to check out my new Piano Covers! Last week’s cover of “Fireflies” was the most popular one yet–so cool to see this series taking off.

This week’s cover is special to me because strictly musically speaking, it may be my favorite video yet. Lady Gaga is a woman of tremendous talents (not least of which are outside the realm of music), but I wanted to showcase her ability to simply write a beautiful song independent of its production, her fashion sense, and her ability to make headlines. I tried to interpret the melody and chords to make this one my own, and I hope you dig it.

Peace,
David

P.S. Got a special guest on next week’s video, be sure to tune in!

Owl City – Fireflies

Owl City – Fireflies

Hey guys,

Really excited about this week’s video! I recorded the piano, guitar, and vocals each in 1 take, then Bob Bryan (yes, that Bob Bryan) edited all the video together. Huge thank you to Michelle Alvarez and Bob, who can now ad cameraman and film editor to his ridiculously awesome resume.

I think “Fireflies” is an uncommonly beautiful modern radio hit, and in my cover, I wanted to break down the song’s arrangements to show how the music and melody could shine on their own without any of the original version’s production flourishes (which are amazing in their own right, by the way). I’m psyched with how it came out, and think Bob’s really cool video edit does well to show how this cover was conceived.

Oh, and next week’s gonna be a doozy.

Defying Gravity from Wicked and Glee

Defying Gravity from Wicked and Glee

Hey ya’ll,

As you can probably tell from the way I sing, I’m a pretty big fan of broadway musicals. My favorites are West Side Story, Les Mis, Little Shop of Horrors, and Jesus Christ Superstar (seriously, the music ROCKS). But I caught a showing of Wicked in San Francisco this week, and I gotta say it was hands down the best musical I’ve ever seen! Here’s me singing my favorite song from the show, “Defying Gravity.”

Also, I’m trying out something new this week…I’ve got three options for next week’s video, and it’s up to you guys to vote for the winner! The choices are:

1) Tom Petty – Free Fallin’
2) Friends In Low Places – Garth Brooks
3) The Beatles – Help!

Leave a comment or hit me up on Twitter at @davidbaronmusic by Noon on Friday 1/29 to vote.

Happy Monday,
David

Fire and Rain by James Taylor

Hey guys,

For my 2nd video of my new Monday YouTube Series “David Baron Piano Covers“, I covered another one of my favorite songs, James Taylor’s “Fire and Rain”. I used to play this song in my first band, Borderline, and still find ways to sneak it into my solo sets at piano bars. Keep tuning in each Monday for new videos…

See you next week,
David
